My mom (and wife, friend, sister, aunt, co-worker...) was the definition of strength. She modelled resiliency, determination, courage, and bravery - in all aspects of her life, and she demonstrated to everyone around her the importance of maintaining a posture of gratitude no matter the circumstances that came her way. Mom always had a passion for her health and fitness. She made sure her gym classes were scheduled prior to the week beginning, and she would do everything in her power to make sure she was able to attend those classes!
Even after her diagnosis with stage IV Glioblastoma, mom continued to be passionate about her fitness. No longer able to drive to the gym, she took her fitness routine to our basement and set herself up with various youtube videos to feed her passion. In addition, over the course of her two year battle with GBM, I had the biggest pleasure of driving mom to our local gym and completing workouts with her there. Working out with my mom was the best. It was fun to lift weights, jump, and run, and see what our bodies were capable of doing. Many times during our workouts, I would have moments where I would forget for a while that mom was even sick.
Mom always challenged me to be the best version of myself. You might say mom's passion for fitness "rubbed off" on me, but more than that, I am committed to carrying on her legacy of strength and gratitude in all aspects of my life - whether that be as a friend, daughter, sister, physiotherapy student, fitness trainer, etc. etc.
To commemorate what would have been mom's 55th birthday on May 4th and to raise funds for Brain Cancer Canada, I am completing 55 burpees per day for the month of May!
I'm so grateful for you for partnering alongside me in this journey - whether you choose to participate in the burpees (55 a day or, maybe even just 5 per day!) and/or provide a donation to Brain Cancer Canada for the work they are doing to further brain cancer research - THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart!
